We are disappointed to share that Barktoberfest will not be held in 2026.

Since 2017, Beyond Fences and Durham Parks and Recreation partnered to host Barktoberfest. Prior to that year, Beyond Fences created and independently hosted the event. Over the years, Barktoberfest has grown into a wonderful community celebration because of the generosity of sponsors, volunteers, and supporters.

When planning began for this year's event, the City sought to make significant changes to the format and operation of Barktoberfest. Beyond Fences did not believe those changes reflected the event we had built together over the past decade and worked in good faith to find a resolution. Despite our efforts, the City terminated our co-hosting agreement and subsequently announced plans to move forward with a separate event under a new name.

These developments leave us without adequate time this year to independently plan and produce the quality event our community has come to expect.

As our signature fundraising event, support of Barktoberfest has meant so much more than the event itself. It has helped Beyond Fences provide life-saving veterinary care, deliver support to underserved areas of our community and keep families and pets together. We are deeply grateful to the Durham community for the trust and belief in our mission.

Although Beyond Fences' Barktoberfest will pause in 2026, this is not the end. We look forward to bringing Barktoberfest back in future years and sincerely hope we can count on your support when that time comes.
